Drag Me To Hell

Think about this title. For real, think about it. The movie is EXACTLY what the title means. In the first 15 minutes, you'll realize that.

I started watching it in a friday afternoon. Alone. I couldn't finish. WAY too much scary for me. I finished it almost a month later. The story is nice, the effects are great. BUT, the way the effects were used, are the most frightening. Thinks like blood gushing out of the girl's mouth. As my dad says: the effects aren't bad. The intention is >=)

Here's the story: An ordinary girl that works in a bank refuses to help an old lady that asks for money. The old lady throws some sort of spell in the girl, causing a bad spirit to chase the girl and drag her to hell.

I recommend it if you need to laugh a little. Oh, and here's a tip: DO NOT eat while watching the movie. You will certainly throw up. And don't watch it alone in a dark room either. I did it and it wasn't very nice.

See ya :D

30 Seconds To Mars - This is War (Album)

I've been waiting for this album since I fell in love with 30 Seconds to Mars in march 2008.

I don't see this as a review of the album. I don't even have musical knowledge to make a review of an album. Movie is my thing. So let's call this "Confessions of an Echelon About This is War". Yup, that's better.

There are so many different things on this album that I don't even know where to start. Maybe I should start with the Summit. Well, to me, the first Summit, that happened in LA didn't really make any difference. We didn't even know what was it, and I was so occupied with my Global Glyphic Assault that I didn't care about it. I just realized what I missed when the Global Summits happened, 'cause some people revealed what happened in there. For the non-echelon (who probably looking at this saying WTF?!), The Summit was a 'recording experience' where the band recorded the fans singing, screaming, jumping, clapping and some other stuff. Check it out on YouTube. It's awesome :D. But thanks to an iranian kid, the Digital Summit happened, so everyone could record what they asked us to do and we submitted to them.

After that, was the Face of Mars. The band asked the fans to upload a picture of themselves to feature in one of the 2000 different covers that they were making. Yep, one cover to each fans. The coolest thing in the world, right? Well, for those who lived in countries that could submit photos, yes. But that wasn't my case. Brazil is FAIL, live with it. In any case, the covers are the coolest thing in the world. My cd hasn't arrived yet, but I can't wait to see who's gonna be on my cover :B

The first single, called Kings and Queens was released on the radios on October. I was at home, ready for school, streaming KROQ on my iTunes when the internet went down. I missed the whole interview with the band AND the song. I guess the Echelon can imagine how pissed I was back then. Thankfully, it played again 5 minutes later on 97x online. I jumped of joy for hearing that song. The wait was so long, but it certainly paid off. Kings and Queens is really good. REALLY GOOD.

I spent a long while just listening to K&Q non-stop. That was when, without previous warning, the song This is War was featured on a video game. I was talking to Marcela (@MarcelaBart), when she gave me a YouTube link to the 30 seconds preview, saying: "Did you see this!?!?". As usual, my internet went down and i just heard the preview an hour later. I am one lucky bastard, huh?

I woke up on December 8th and RAN into my computer. I pre-ordered the CD+T-shirt combo, so I got a free download of the album. My first impression was.... There's no word to express it. My second impression was.... just like the first. This album is just perfect. I don't know exactly how many times I heard it, but I simply can't choose a favorite song. This album is so deep, so powerful. I means so much, at least to me. It's just... 30 Seconds To Mars.

Here's an impression of each song:

1) Escape: There's no better way to start the album. Jared's voice. The 'This is War' in the middle of the song. I love this song. Not to hear it all the time, but I love it for its power.

2) Night Of The Hunter: This song is pretty fast and I like it. The lyrics are amazing. Jared's voice is really good in this song, particularly.

3) Kings and Queens: The melody is wonderful. This song gives me hope. 'In defense of our dreams'

4) This is War: My favorite lyrics of the whole album. This is a Masterpiece.

5) 100 Suns: I liked it, but it's not my favorite.

6) Hurricane: I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE this one. Melody, lyrics, piano. EVERYTHING. With or without Kanye.

7) Closer to The Edge: This one needs to be the next single. NEEDS!

8) Vox Populi: The first time I heard it, it gave me chills. A smile from ear to ear. It's the union of the strength of the people and the power of the band.

9) Search and Destroy: Very, very awesome. VERY awesome.

10) Alibi: It's a deep, even sad song. But I like it.

11) Stranger in a Strange Land: It reminds me of Björk. Hm... I don't know, I'm still analyzing it.

12) L490: Shannon's song. At first, I didn't liked it. But I'm starting to feel its deepness and I'm starting to like it.

I've learned so much since I've become an Echelon. About friendship, about love, about war. Even about losing. But I grew. And I see that as a good thing. I've made friends from every part of the globe. I am proud to say that I am part of this family. We fight every once in a while, but what real family doesn't? But we also support each other. I wanna Thank Jared, Shannon and Tomo for being who they are and for having strength to keep moving forward when everything was against them. Thank you, guys! We love you.

I know than when I click 'publish post' I will remember that I forgot to write something very important.

Love,

Gabriela Santos Augusto (aka Gabi)

Julie & Julia

Cooking for me: freezer stuff+microwave=lunch. That's it.

I didn't know much about it. I hadn't even watched the trailer. But this one caught my eye. I don't know why. Maybe because I love Amy Adams and Meryl Streep. Yeah, I think that was it.

The movie is about the real story of Julie Powell (Amy Adams), a women who decided to cook all recipes of Julia Child's cook book during a year and blog about it. The movie also shows the story of Julia Child (Meryl Streep) during the making and publishing of the book.

The movie is very sweet. It's probably a movie to watch with you girlfriends in a sunday afternoon. It's pretty, it's funny, it's comedy. I'm not saying I didn't liked it, I'm just saying it's not my favorite kind of movie.

Maryl Streep is one of the greatest actresses I've ever seen #fact
Amy Adams rules #fact

The movie is nice, I recommend it.

see ya :D

Cloudy With a Chance Of Meatballs

This movie isn't for kids. I mean, it wasn't made specially for kids. There are tons of jokes that only adults can understand. It doesn't mean that the kinds won't have a good time. There are a lot of food explosions that they will love. Trust me.

About the story, it's kinda original: In a little island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean lives a crazy scientist named Flint, who constantly create weird and non-working inventions. As his city was living a lack of food variety (they just ate sardines), he decides to create a machine that turns water into any kind of food. The problem begins when the city mayor overload the machine with food orders, making a huge storm that will destroy the whole world (starting with New York, as usual).

Half of the voices are from SNL: Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, Will Forte and some other people. Anna Faris is also included. I love her :D

I don't know what I like the most: The movie or the title =P

Well, the movie is really good. Go check it out.

Inglourious Basterds

I liked it. The whole story is very creative. I mean, put all the nazis on a movie theater and then blow it up? I wouldn't have thought of that.

Brad Pitt is really good. South boy, Basterds leader. But he isn't the main character, and I see that as a good thing. Actually, there is no main character. The story is divided in several chapters, each one telling a story that, at the beginning don't seem to have any connection, but in the end, you realize that they complete each other. It's kinda intricate to explain, you have to see it to understand.

The movies is very violent. There's a lot of shooting and killing, but I don't have a problem with that. Quentin Tarantino knows how to make a violent movie be fun. You can take it from the Kill Bill movies. They are violent, but they're also absurd, and that makes them laughable. I looooove Kill Bill =P

The Ride - Short Film

For those who didn't understand yet, The Ride is the short film inspired by the new 30 Seconds To Mars' single, Kings and Queens. It's what most people would call a music video.

In my opinion, A Beautiful Lie is VISUALLY better. All of those images of the glaciers are breathtaking. Every single frame of the film is wonderful. But The Ride made me feel like I had never felt before. The riders' will to keep moving forward, the strength that they showed while riding, was amazing.

I must say, Jared makes me even more interested when he credits Bartholomew Cubbins as the director. He does his job beautifully, with wonderful shots of Los Angeles. I've never been to LA, but I felt like I knew that city. Creepy o.O

I also liked the fact that they took the main spotlight off themselves and put it in the fans. Although, out of every scene of the band playing, Jared and Shannon are in the majority. Tomo is kinda hidden =/

Anyway, the film's inspiring and It's one of my favorites so far.

PS.: Love the fact that Emma Ludbrook produced it *o*

Chapter 27

I've never watched a movie about John Lennon's death, so I didn't know much about it. All I knew was that it happened in New York, in front of his apartment and that his killer was a "fan".

I might not be the best person to say this, but Jared Leto was outstanding. I've already seen thousands of interviews of him and 30 Seconds To Mars. That guy was nothing like him. I don't think it was just the over weigh, it was his expressions, his accent, his way of walking, talking... Creepy o.O

I not a huge Beetle fan, but i know how important they were to the world music. Now, you wonder what was going through Mark Chapman's head when he shot John Lennon. There is no way you can imagine. No one can. It's impossible.

I really liked the movie. It's very powerful, very deep. It's not something you wanna see if you need to get cheered up. Not at all. But it's a great movie.

This one is going to my watch-again-when-i'm-older list.

see ya :D

Transformers: Revenge of the fallen

*explosion*

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

That was my reaction. For REEEEAL!

Let's face it: Tranformers' special effects are the best. The slow motion scenes are breathtaking. Specially those where the robots are fighting. Plus, the cinematography helps a lot.

So far, this could be my reaction for both movies: Tranformers 1 and 2. The big problem of the 2nd is the script.

(Spoiler)

First of all, I thought Megatron was dead! How could he simply come back from the dead?! What about the cube thing? They said it was destroyed! But , NOOOOO, it wasn't!

The story is very poor. They could've been a bit more creative, right? I don't know. That relationship between Shia LaBeauf and Megan Foxis kinda wierd. The beauty and the geek. A bit too cliche to me.

As I said before, the effects are amazing, but if you want something more, go watch the first movie. It's much better ;)

My Sister's Keeper

During the fifteen year that I have lived, I had never cried in a movie. Never, ever, ever, ever. EVER. I've seen movies where everybody cries, but I never did. Until today. I didn't cried my ass off, but I shed tears.

The story, by itself, is pretty sad. Kate (played by the bald Sofia Vassilieva) is diagnosed with leukemia still as a child. As her brother (Evan Ellingson) didn't match her, Kate's parents decided to have an in vitro child that matched perfectly with Kate. After lots of medical procedures, Anna (Kate's in vitro sister, played by Abigail Breslin) decide that she should be the one who's taking care of her own body. That's were the biggest problem (as if they didn't had enough) begins. If Kate doesn't get a kidney, she'll die. And Anna is the only one who can donate it. The story develops after that, with a lot of flashbacks telling the whole story of the family.

Every single part of it is sad. I could hear everybody crying during the movie. I mean, everybody. I just cried after Anna asks Kate where will she go after her death. It's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO heartbreaking T.T

I like dramas, but not this kind. It's too sad.

If you wanna know the end, go watch it. I'm not gonna tell. All I can say is: Abigail Breslin has a brilliant future in the movie industry ;)

The Ugly Truth

For brazilian readers: A Verdade Nua e Crua.

Honestly, romantic comedy isn't really my favorite kind of movie. Usually, they're all full of cliches: cute couple that don't like each other, stupid jokes.... But in this one, the story caught my eye. There was no perfect man. That's a good thing. It mean that the romantic comedies are evolving. Finally.

Well, even with the cliches, it's entertaining, it's fun, it's romantic comedy.

I like Katherine Heigl (I think it's because of Grey's Anatomy), so I liked her character. Gerard Butler is kinda nice too, and they make a great couple.

During the first half hour, nearly no cliches. After that, things like the fighting between the main couple happened. I hate those fights. Why can't they just get along? Well, if they did, there would be no movie.

So, if you like romantic comedies, where the guy gets the girl and they live happily ever after, go watch it. If you don't like it, give it a chance. Watch the trailer first. If you like it, watch the movie. It's cool =)

House M.D. - 6th season

I've been waiting for the sixth season every since the fifth ended.

I love House. Not just the show, but also the character. Hugh Laurie is the best British guy playing an American guy.

The first episode, which was a 2 hour episode, is pretty different.

First of all, there's no case. There's no patient. House is the patient.
Second: there's no Princeton Plaisboro in the whole episode. No Cuddy, no Cameron, no Chase, no Foreman, no team. That was weird. Very weird. The hospital and the other doctors are a main part of the show, at least to me! I freaked out when he fired all the team in the end of the 3rd season. Imagine me right now!

Anyway, this didn't seemed like another episode. It was more a House movie than a a long episode. I don't know if that was their intention, but that was how it felt to me.

In the psychiatric hospital, he meets lots of cool people: an anorexic guy, a girl who hasn't talked in 10 years, a pretty talkative rapper, a guy who thinks he's a superhero, and many, many others.
As House is House, he goes against the rules, at first. Then he realizes he won't get anywhere with it (that's new o.O).
I wanna see House with Cuddy, so I was very sad to see that he was having an "affair" (I really don't know how to name that relationship, you gotta watch to understand) with a girl who visits a friend in the hospital. She's cute, but I prefer Cuddy ;)

Lot's of things happened, and in the end, he leaves the hospital with his licence to practice medicine. I got a feeling that he's going back to Princeton. It doesn't say anything really specific, so I'm not sure if he's going back.

I can't wait 'til next monday to the following episode!

Fight Club

This movie is simply wonderful.
The script is smart, the directing is brilliant, the actors are amazing...
David Fincher really know how to make a masterpiece.
I was impressed with the flying cameras on "Panic Room", but in his one.... WOW! There's a scene where the camera does a 360º turn through Edward Norton's living room. That is certainly one of the best scene of the movie.
Also the make up. When Edward Noton (The Narrator) beat the crap out of Angel Face (played by Jared Leto), Leto's face gets unrecognizable. The make up did a wonderful job there. If you wannna see it, go to google images. I think there's a picture there.

If you know someone who has already seen the movie, don't ask to know the end. It won't ruin the whole movie(I already knew, my mom told me the end ¬¬), but it will be certainly a lot less fun.

I don't recommend Fight Club for people under 14. I doubt they will understand the end. It's pretty complicated.
One other thing: because of the big revelation in the end, you really need to see it twice. At least.

Enjoy

The first post

Wow, I have a blog now

I guess I should start by introducing myself.

Hello!
My name is Gabriela and I'm 15.
I love movies. In every way.
I wanna get the degree in filmmaking, 'cause it's what I'm passionate about.
I'm here to comment about the movies I see, but not only that. I'll comment on music and on TV shows as well.

As I haven't seen a movie in a while (a week, I think) I won't comment in anything today. Let's make this just the introducing.

If you have a suggestion of a good movie, let me know!
